Any experience with Ciguatera?
Just took the case of a patient with Ciguatera (Ciguatera is a foodborne illness poisoning in humans caused by eating marine species whose flesh is contaminated with a toxin known as ciguatoxin, which is present in many microorganisms (particularly the micro-alga Gambierdiscus toxicus) living in tropical waters.)
Helluva case ... Lachesis fit so bloody well!!!! ... but she had the strong symptom of vertigo amel with the eyes closed. Lach is not in the rubric and actually is a 3 for vertigo < eyes closed!
Ended up giving Aconite. Hoping for good results.

Hey, Jack,
Never even heard of Ciguatera. Sounds like a good reason for ruling out Lach.
Good luck,
G

Re: Any experience with Ciguatera?
Just received my patient's 10 day follow-up phone call.
Since a split dose of Aconite 200C in water...
dizziness not as severe
not as photophobic (dizziness, headaches)
nausea has disappeared
chest pains (squeezing pain) resolved
sense of exhaustion with dizziness is much improved.
her words " for some reason I'm able to cope much better with the remaining dizziness. It doesn't overwhelm me."
Asked her to redose once and if condition doesn't improve noticeably in 5 days redose again.
Will see her for a F/U in first week of June.

Hi Jack
This is beautiful!
Question: why did you ask her to re-dose when her condition has already improved significantly...I am not sure i understand.

Re: Any experience with Ciguatera?
Hi Andrea,
Her improvement has stalled. No noticeable change in the remaining major sx of dizziness. She said she has been under a lot of stress at work lately. Perhaps her circumstances are "distracting" her vital force and she may need to redose.
